meters and sniffers
meters and sniffers:
A lot of plans you'll find online for transmitter hunting sniffers are probably unnecessary sensitive.
I think a lot of these popped up before HTs were cheap and tape measure beams were a thing. Nowadays,
what most people need in a sniffer is something that can help them identify which bush the fox is hidden
in, not to get a bearing when still driving around trying to get into the area.
Sniffers are for people that don't have an offset attenuator, or for users looking for simplicity like a wand
to wave around while they watch a meter or listen for a tone to change. Sniffers with audible feedback
are especially good for young players that are easily distracted or don't have the patience to stare at
a meter and try to work out bearings. They can also be very inexpensive and easy project to build, much
like the tape-measure beams.
