2023.11.11 George Wyth Park Foxhunt:
No one showed up for testing at the Airport, but we had a great afternoon with the fox-hunt. Nine players
(and a few of their kids) showed up and went after four foxes of varying degrees of difficulty. After the
first two foxes had been found by everyone, they were moved and made for two additional rounds, for a total
of six hunts between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
It looks like everyone had a great time. The experienced players found the foxes challenging enough, and the
new players were also able to find the foxes and enjoyed the hunt. We also got to use our new club event
flags for the first time.
A check-in sheet was passed around for players to sign in. We'll try to notify them of future events.
We got players from Ames, Oelwein, and Waverly, in addition to Waterloo/Cedar Falls. Pretty good turn-out,
considering the light publicity and short notice.
I called George Wyth Park ahead of the game, to make sure they were okay with us playing in their park, and to
see if they had any specific rules we needed to follow. For a larger event we would have needed to have gotten
an "event permit", but for this small group we should be okay. Linda reminded me we need to wear high-vis
clothing since there will be bow hunters in the park looking for deer. (so stay within eyesight of the tree-line)
Also, the flush toilets are closed for the winter (only latrines are in service), and no flying quads in the park.
