meshtastic
meshtastic:
Meshtastic is a relatively new decentralized low-power meshed network wireless protocol. It doesn't require
a license, and it's only loosely attached to the internet. (mainly for identifying the location of base nodes
For the most part, personal nodes are ultra-portable (smaller than most HT's) and many of them are designed to
be controlled via bluetooth, from something like a smart phone. Although you may be using a phone to compose
and read messages, the phone requires no cellular or wifi connection to communicate via your node.
In addition to being small and battery-powered, the majority of personal nodes cost well under $100, making
meshtastic a very inexpensive / minimal investment hobby to try out.
The public mesh is in channel "Long_Fast", on LoRa frequency slot 20. Make sure to switch to that if you
want to connect to the public mesh.
Also turn on "OK to MQQT" in the LoRa settings so you show up on the public map.
The default frequency for the USA is 906.875 MHz (might show up as either "20" or "default" in settings)
