meshtastic at Hawkeye meshtastic at Hawkeye:

I did some tower work in the summer of 2025 that involved installing a Meshtastic wide-area repeater node up at
about 120 feet, and that got me looking into meshtastic. A short while after that, Joe Corso stopped by CIS
and I noticed he had a travel node on his card lanyard, so we got into a discussion about it.

A few days later he dropped off two Heltec V3's that he'd found at our local Bin Store. They were very cheap,
and he'd picked up a handful to pass around, including to CIS so someone here would be familiar with them and
be able to assist new users on campus with getting them set up. (by this point I'd already bought my own card
radio)

Anthony has set up his node in his cubicle, although range is somewhat limited indoors. I've been doing some
experimentation with them and have a few more of the basic little radios and accessories on order to play
around with.

More recently I've linked my node here "Hawkeye Mesh Base" (HwkB) via MQTT with the larger Iowa Mesh
group on Des Moines to try to connect our two cities on the mesh.

I've also created a private channel (HCC) for Hawkeye College, see link or QR code image below to add.
