Engine Controls - Hard Start/Spark Knock 1,500-2,500 RPM

HESITATION - VEHICLES BUILT AFTER 8/2/2004
WITH A 3.0L ENGINE

FORD:
2005-2006 Escape

MERCURY:
2005-2006 Mariner

ISSUE
Some 2005-2006 Escape/Mariner vehicles built after 8/2/2004, equipped with 3.0L engine, may exhibit a light spark knock (detonation) at 1,500-2,500 RPM when operating in hot ambient temperatures. Some vehicles may also exhibit a hard start condition with a cold or hot engine and/or a hesitation on acceleration immediately after the engine is first started (cold or hot).

ACTION
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release B43.14 and higher or B44.4 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the B44 CD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
