back to Antenna Parties

2025.09.27 Mingo to the top 2025.09.27 Mingo to the top:

Just getting back from Mingo Round 2. I arrived at about 9:10am, and the sun set as I was climbing down the
tower at 7:15pm so it was quite a marathon run. This was a follow-up climb to the previous one in April. The
first climb was mainly to install cameras and antennas around the 115ft level. Today's event will involve
climbing all the way to the top (300ft) for installation of antennas and maintenance on the top light, in addition
to maintenance on the two giant VHF bays closer to the 250ft point.

I ended up navigating down the last 100ft of tower in the dark, with the help of a flashlight from the ground.
Picking up all the gear and loading the truck in the dark was going to be a challenge, followed by a 90 minute
drive home, and Calvin thankfully offered to let me crash at his place and save the rest for morning.

In the morning (and still a bit stiff from the climb) we returned and loaded up my truck, and surveyed our
handiwork - antennas are all working good. Though I've got a bunch of long, tangled rope to straighten out when
I get home. Straightening out one 300ft rope is bad enough, but this time I have FOUR, which should be quite
interesting...
