CTF-Lucius2004 What's a shame about some games you play is that depending on the platform it was written for, or the engine it was written with, as time progresses it becomes harder and harder to go back to them. Such was the case with CTF-Lucius for Unreal Tournament. I discovered the map while playing on one of my favorite servers which is still up to this day. It became one of my favorites, and I was a little ticked off that I couldn't use it with Unreal Tournament 2003 "out of the box". Since I already wrote my own maps for other games, and have a 3D modeling background, I decided to try and convert the map to the new engine. I contacted Peter over a year ago on ICQ to do the project to which he agreed. However, I got SO burned out by the mapmaking process that I never finished it. Day after day I'd tweak this or put a texture on that, or make sure that the textures were done right and that everything was perfect. I'm a perfectionist. The original author's web site is here: http://www.xs4all.nl/~peterned So fast forward to last week when my DVD SE of Unreal Tournament 2004 arrives. My laptop still had the Lucius project on it, untouched from the day I left it last year. Wouldn't you know - it took TWO HOURS to finish it from where I left off. I could have had this out a year ago. Installation Drop CTF-Lucius2004.ut2 into your UT2004\Maps directory. Done. Map notes I did my best to make sure that every little detail was set - right down to what things look like BEHIND the wall where nobody would look. Again, I'm a perfectionist. Some graphics came from the then-used Unreal Tournament 2003 game, and others I made myself in Photoshop on Mac OS X. No sounds have been added or altered. I chose the music track I did because it seems to match the energy this map has. The gravity in the center of the map was a bitch to get just right. I'd have UT on one machine and UT2K3 on another and I'd jump off the platforms at the same time to make sure I landed in the same spot. The lightning was my idea. About me My first work as a level designer was when I built a custom 20+ scenario for the game Marathon Infinity on the Macintosh many years ago (you've heard of Halo? It's actually a side-story to Marathon). My first game was written for the Atari 800 back in 1984 which won 10th place in the Star Wars Fan Club Creativity Contest (so, if you have back issues of Bantha Tracks, my name's in there). I do a little Photoshop, a little Web design, etc. Currently, I'm a software engineer. Enjoy, and poke me if you have any problems with the map.
