2024.12.05 solar eject:
I can't seem to catch a break. This time the vehicle was just parked in my driveway. We had some freakishly
strong wind gusts as a cold front moved in, and I get a knock on my door as my neighbor is holding a busted up
solar panel, asking "is this yours?" Not sure where he found it, but it had been completely ripped off the
roof rack, even getting separated from both aluminum channels in the process. I think they said the gusts were
45+ mph overnight.
I was pretty sure I had recently given a "snug test" on the cable ties somewhat recently. I'm going to have
to come up with a more secure way to attach the panels to the roof racks. The panel was trashed, so I guess
I'll be ordering a replacement for it.
The new panel is in but it's the "2024" style with the rectangular cells instead of the square ones. I haven't
gotten a good chance to test them to see how they actually compare, as the panels themselves are smaller (area)
than the older ones despite having the same rating. "they're using a new, more efficient design" is what I've
been told, but I'll keep a large amount of skepticism until my tests prove otherwise.
