I bought this cheap (for the time) at one of Radio Shack's "garage sales" they had in their lot one time, I
think this is when they were getting ready to move to a new location. At the time it was an astoundingly
portable little counter, that just ran on four AA batteries. Range is good, covering 1-1300 MHz. As with many
counter though, it has a 1.4v P-P limit on the BNC, so you definitely can't just transmit into it. It's got
reasonably good sensitivity with the collapseable antenna it came wu=ith, although I changed that to a rubber
ducky antenna for convenience.
I kept killing batteries though because the power switch was a tall slider that slid inward to power on, so
it was really easy to turn itself on just bouncing around in a pack. I filed back the switch so it was close
to flush with the front and that problem went away.
I also stumbled on a mod someone posted online to install a micro push buton on the top to work as a "hold"
switch, so I could lock it after detecting, giving me a chance to read off and record the frequency.
It's got a switch for 50 ohm or high-impedence, a switch for below or above 50MHz, and a push button to change
the gate speed. (trades read speed for accuracy) It's also got a backlight for the LCD display.
I see a similar looking unit, REVEX FC2000, might be a chinese knockoff after Radio Shack discontinued it?
