cracked board:


This was basically impossible to spot without magnification and good lighting. It's somewhat common to see
radios where traces running past the board mounting screws have cracked, usually from a hard impact or drop.
This particular trace supplies +8 to SOME parts of the VCO circuit, leading to some very weird behavior.
