ARES ARES:

ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) is a sub-division within ARRL that focuses on the application of
Amateur Radio in emergency preparedness and disaster response. It helps keep ham radio operators involved
with emergency response management and teams at a city and state level, so they are able to pariticpate in
drills and be prepared to assist with any communications or other related needs during an emergency.

A big part of this is simply remaining visible and a trusted part of official emergency response coordinator's
list of resources in an emergency. In this capacity, amateur radio will only respond when "activated", but to
do this we must be a familiar team that can be trusted to provide valuable and reliable assistance that can work
in smooth coordination with other responders.
