2024.04.28 weekly jammer on the sunday ARES net on 146.82:
I seem to spend more time gathering parts for projects (and STARTING projects) than I do actually finishing them,
but this one was pretty close to finished and I got the motivation to wind it up from a jammer that has been
harassing the people trying to check into Al's ARES net on Sunday nights.
So I finished the latest mod on my heavily modded DDF-1 by getting the color dash compass working, and installed
it all in the old Explorer that has become my radio wagon. (mainly Field Days, but also JOTA and occasional
hamfests too) It's got four whips permanently installed on the roof (via NMO mounts) dedicated to use with a
doppler. I tucked a tiny combiner box above the dome light and ran lines down to a receiver and the doppler
control box. The radio is just HTX-202, but I've gotten used to using these tanky bricks for fox-hunting.
I've got a number of doppler control boxes, but this is my most advanced one, and features a color compass that
can be velcro'd to the top of the dashboard, making it MUCH easier for me to hunt solo when necessary. The box
has a smoked plexi cover on the front, and I can adjust the brightness of the LEDs, so it should work well day
or night.
Well, the jammer was a no-show tonight. But the RAIN, the rain was not. And it brought friends. It waited
patiently and at 3 minutes to net the skies opened up, it poured buckets for the next 20 minutes, and then it
stopped on a dime. Like it was doing it on purpose, just to spite me. At least I didn't have to be outside swinging
a tape measure beam around!
