back to epic tales of Cat and Mouse hides
Cedar Rapids invitation part 2
Cedar Rapids invitation part 2:
After wining the hunt and then winning the hide, they were kinda grumpy with me. And it only went downhill
from there. Our group from Waterloo was basically taking turns winning hunts. It wasn't a shut-out, but it
was pretty close. This whole business of solid-four-minute-keydowns was like shooting fish in a barrel for us.
I don't think anyone survived more than three key-downs before one of us found them.
After a bit over two hours of this abuse, what was REALLY pissing them off is the entire Waterloo group (except
Gremlin) were CONTINUOUSLY lost. We didn't know where we were, or where the meeting point was at, and they
kept having to send out escorts to bring us to the meeting point. (where we'd just go on to win the next round)
"How can you keep finding people if you're ALWAYS LOST??!" They were all getting upset with us. And this was
on their own home turf. I tried to explain to them that we were just "following our meters" but I guess they
just didn't understand?
I was doing especially well. I think it was about the time I won my fifth hunt that someone finally snapped.
(they KNEW several of us had hand-held direction finders, me specifically, so of course here it comes) They
started accusing me of cheating, "nobody's that good, he has to be CHEATING, he's using his Finder!" Argument
erupts. I deny it of course but they just won't let it go. Anyway, somehow I had kinda knew something like
this would happen. So I say, "Gremlin.... do you know where my Finder is?" "Why yes I do!" "Can you please
tell these guys where my Finder is?" "Of course! It's in my trunk where you put it when you arrived in town
this evening!"
Pin drop.
Anyway, they were NOT amused, but at least they quit accusing me of cheating. We continued to play till around
10pm, and went home. We were never invited back to Cedar Rapids to play again. (although several of their group
DID come up to Waterloo to play a few times)
