2011.10.30 locked mic
2011.10.30 locked mic:
Seeing a locked mic on ch19, outlaw and motorman beam bearings both around 315 deg, bronco and triple nickel
both around 170 deg. (these bearings do NOT intersect, someone is off) Got out the doppler at ~11pm and
picked up billy and went hunting
Doppler was found to be having exceptionally good sensitivity, getting bearings on crocket and wiz while
working in Cedar Falls. C&M radio meter didn't move until about 10 blocks out, 2970 first hit 4 bars at about
18 blocks out.
Multi-path was as bad as expected at the start, but stabilized fairly well mid hunt, only to become very
unstable at close. But the early instability was a rapid change all around, whereas the late instability was
swapping of apparently stable bearings, likely due to multi-path.
around 11:45pm found white pickup truck with black firestick on left mirror in driveway outside 806 Lilac Ln,
Cedar Falls IA. Outlaw IDs phone number as 266-8022.
The owner of the truck wasn't home but his wife was. Kinda sounded like he was an over-the-road driver and
was out on the road. She didn't want us to touch anything though and called her husband to let him know that
his radio was stuck on and was pissing off all the truckers trying to get a door at the nearby distribution
center. Rather than turn off or unplug the radio, he walked her through disconnecting the battery on the
truck for some reason? Whatever, it's off now.
I didn't get any pictures or video of the hunt.
Conclusions after the hunt:
- Outlaw and motorhead's bearings were the ones that weren't accurate, to everyone's surprise.
- The doppler control box appears to be having some severe RF problems when the 2970 transmits, it comes over
the external speaker even when the unit is OFF. But it comes over it much worse when the unit is on, and
ignores the volume control on the control box.
- The remote display's ribbon cable needs to be longer. The light hood is working excellently, but the entire
display needs to be weighted or fastened down to prevent tipping and sliding.
