7 impulse LIFE 16 amp load test
7 impulse LIFE 16 amp load test:
After a short time with the 150w controller, I switched it out for the 300w Impulse controller. This one is
just a boring hermetically sealed aluminum finned brick with two powerpoles on it, no meter or anything. The
wires are also suspiciously thin, but there's nothing I can do about that. I started it on 8 amps and then
went up to 16 amps. At this point the controller was maxing the panels at 227 watts, delivering 212 watts to
the battery/load at over 15 amps, probably in large part due to the battery being willing to accept a decent
amount of charge power.
This lasted about four minutes before I heard a sizzling from the load. Figuring at least the relay bought the
farm, I disconnected the load but noticed no change at all with the controller and panels, as it continued to
pull Pmax watts from the five solar wallets, working to recharge the battery. I only let this run a short time
before ending the test session, and began disconnecting and packing things up.
