back to transporting flexible panels

modifying portfolio for panel transport modifying portfolio for panel transport:

Here's a quick how-to on modifying a portfolio from Amazon to work with flexible panels. I will be using rolls
of black gaffer's tape. You can get by with just a roll of 2", but I find it helpful to also have 4" tape.

Open the zipper, turn the bag inside-out, and close the zipper. Before closing the zipper, make sure both of
the corners are completely inverted.

Identify the sewn down fabric strips along the sides. Use a fine side cutters (or X-acto knife or other sharp
blade) to cut the thread attaching the strips down. Completely remove it on the bottom end, but leave an inch
or so on the top end by the zipper. Clean out all the bits of thread. This takes awhile and is a little tedious,
but keeps the bag in good condition without risk of the nylon weave fraying later.

Position the portfolio so the bottom crease lays flat, and apply a strip of gaffer's tape to protect the fold
from the panels. leave a few inches on each end to fold and stick down on the outside side (which is currently
on the inside) Use the 4" tape if you have it, otherwise apply 2" down the middle, and flank on each side with
another run of 2". The center tape will be supporting the weight of all the panels when carried and needs to
be durable.

Cover the side edges (four in total) with 2" tape, folding it so half is on the inside and half is on the
outside.

Turn it right-side-in. Apply two more short strips on the top corners, one to cover the zipper pull and the
other to cover the end of the zipper.
