ideal diodes ideal diodes:

When you need the lowest possible voltage drop, consider using an ideal diode. They use a controller IC to
drive mosfet(s), and can produce drops around 0.1 volts, often at high current. But similar to schottky, they
are difficult to find with higher reverse voltage ratings, and are the most expensive option. Since they are
multiple component, they'll also be mounted on a small circuit board, with a much larger footprint than you'd
find on a single diode. They also have a minimum voltage requirement (usually around 3 volts) that's necessary
for them to start conducting in the forward direction.

With solar panels, it's difficult to justify the added expense for such a minor increase in production, but
they may be useful in other related areas such as connecting additional batteries for charging without allowing
the load to be able to discharge them later without your intervention. For example, you could place a second
car battery in your trunk and keep it fully charged through an ideal diode, which would prevent it from getting
discharged if you left your lights on.
