back to mark 2 combiners

01 enclosure construction 01 enclosure construction:

I took pictures during construction in case anyone else wants to make one like mine. I went with the usual
pinfox black plastic (ABS) boxes for their ruggedness and water-tight lid gasket. After planning out the
arrangement of the jacks and meters, I used white masking tape to mark where the holes need to go. Making
square holes is always a pain. Nowadays I use a hand-squeeze sheet metal punch to make two holes where the
powerpoles are going, and use a 1/4" drill bit on a drill press to drill holes for the meters. The smaller
meters I'm just taking out material like with the powerpoles, to get a head start. For the bigger meter, I
make a series of not-quite-connected holes along the border, and then use a dike to nip the gap all the way
around and drop out the middle. In both cases, I do the rest of the hole making using a large x-acto knife.
Be careful, those knives can be dangerous even in the best of circumstances.
