BCAP3000 3,000f 2.7v BCAP3000 3,000f 2.7v:

I bought a set of used Maxwell BCAP3000 ultra-capacitors off eBay awhile ago and finally got around to making
a super-capacitor bank. These are each rated 3,000 farads (yes really) at 2.7 volts each. When connected in
series, the pack is then rated 500 farads at 16.2 volts. I had originally intended to use this as an emergency
jump-start pack for my vehicle, but then also got ideas about using it to run a Field Day radio station, using
the capacitor bank as a buffer between the radio and a solar array. In other words, a radio station that's
running ENTIRELY on solar power, without any battery.

These can be rather dangerous and must be handled carefully. Maxwell rates them at over 200 amps continuous
discharge, with a peak surge of 1,000 amps. That's more than enough to spot-weld - it will outright liquefy
solder if you get a short somewhere. Plus overvoltage or shorting these cells could result in catastrophic
failure, including a powerful explosion with shrapnel. So I'm going to be handling them carefully.
