6 IR-capable camcorder
6 IR-capable camcorder:
While watching a movie someone was using a little camcorder to record in the dark. I looked closely and could
see a model, looked it up, and it was a real thing, so I bought one. It worked really well for a few
years, but then the IR light on it broke. (probably burned out from frequent use) So I bought another one.
It's a SEREE LCAM-42, though they don't advertise the brand very hard, it might be an Amazon exclusive. It's
also interesting to see they don't lean into the IR capabilities at all, it barely gets a mention and there's
nothing in the product pictures showing it being used in the dark. Maybe they're being elusive on purpose?
It also goes by the name "IR FHD".
It automatically switches to IR mode when in low light, you can hear the camera "click" as a mechanical shutter
moves the IR filter out of the optic path and it turn on the IR LEDs around the perimeter of the front lens.
It also comes with a remote, to stop/start recording. Records to SD card. It uses a battery pack, but you
can leave the USB cable plugged into the camera to power it while using it. I did find that the microphone
is very sensitive to noise on the power line, and had to work a bit on that so there wasn't a loud hum in the
audio while recording when plugged into a wall pack.
