1 IR monocular:




My first monocular was probably a soviet surplus, those were known for generating high amounts of x-rays into
the user's eye, so not really good in the long-run. But it was affordable and it definitely hooked me on being
able to see in the dark.

I believe it ran on a pair of CR123 batteries, which were kinda expensive and didn't last very long, so I wasn't
able to use it a lot, and it seemed to get less effective over time.

Eventually one day it just stopped working, but I did end up getting more IR gear down the road.

It might have been a Russian Cylop-1. The one that I bought was just the camera itself, without the big lens
on the front. Mine also had an attached illuminator. Now that I think about it, the illuminator ran on the
CR123 batteries, and the camera itself ran on a 9v battery. I seem to recall it also including a cover for the
front that had a "pinhole" opening, allowing use (training?) during the day. Trying to use it uncovered during
the day apparently would ruin it.
