infra-red (IR):


I've had an interest in night vision for many years. Ages ago I bought a basic night-vision monocular that
didn't work very well but definitely stoked my interest. Since then I've modified cameras (removing the IR
blocking filter) and also built IR flashlights. (and even a spotlight)

IR is just invisible, radiated heat. Like any other light it has a "color", but it's past "red" on the human-
vision spectrum, and so can't be seen. Of course color is a gradient, so the higher frequencies of IR can be
seen faintly as a dull red, while working perfectly as a spotlight to an IR-sensitive camera.

It's impossible to see the "true color" of anything illuminated by IR, so the color you see in some IR cameras
is correlated to a temperature rather than an optic color.
