Hi There! I will explain in great detail how to make stew. Ingrediants: 1-1/2 to 2 lbs beef. (I would buy a piece of round steak that had a chunk or two of fat along an edge.) 1/2 large onion diced up water oil or shortening 1 or 1-1/2 Knorr beef bullion cubes. (In the soup section in a little yellow box that has 6 or 8 in it.) 2 carrots peeled and cut in stew size pieces 2 large potatoes peeled and cut in stew sized chunks. 1/2 - 3/4 cup flour cup of COLD water Tube of biscuits. First cut the fat off the slab of round steak. Dice the fat into small pieces and fry the grease out of it in a large stew pan on medium heat stirring occasionally. Once the fat is the color of a cracker, spoon the cracklings out and throw away.Add shortening or oil to the fat until the total grease in the pan is about 1/2" deep. Add round steak that you have cut into 1" chunks. Fry the beef on medium heat stirring occasionaly until it is brown (like a fried hamburger). Add the onion and continue frying and stirring every few mins. until they are looking soft and translucent. Add water to cover the beef and onions with about 2" extra. You can add a few shakes of pepper and the knorr beef cube. Bring to a boil, put a lid on the pan and turn the heat down low so it continues to boil. Boil for about 45min. to one hour. You should stir it about every 15 min. After 45 min. start tasting the beef. When it seems very tender, its time to add the potatoes. (You can be cutting up your potatoes and carrots while the meat and onions are cooking.) You will want to add enough extra water to cover the potatoes, meat and onions with an inch or two to spare. Bring back to a boil, cover and cook 10 min. again at a low level that keeps it gently bubbling. Add carrots, bring to boil, cover and cook an additional 15 min. By now all the ingredients are cooked, your onions have disappeared and you need to turn that watery stew into gravy. This would be a good time to turn on your oven as directed on the biscuit tube. And get out your cookie sheet. Take 3/4 cup of flour and mix it with one cup COLD water. You need to stir this very well because if it's lumpy - it might stay that way in the stew! Pour about 2/3 of this mixture into the bubbling stew and stir well. Bring back to a boil and cook two min. If the stew seems too thick, add a little water. If it's too thin, add the rest of the flour water mixture. When you think you have enough gravy to stew ratio (if it looks right), cook it about two min more and taste the gravy. If it isn't beefy tasting enough, add 1/2 knorr beef cube and stir it throughout as it melts. Taste again. You want to be careful with the beef cubes because they also have salt in them. When it's right, turn the heat as low as you can (Use you back, right, simmer burner.) Put in the biscuits and bake according to directions on tube. Grands take 16- 18 min. After you're done eating, get the leftover stew into the refrigerator so it doeasn't go bad on you. It'll keep a week in the fridge. from the written list: ingredients: 1 cup peeled and diced potatoes 1 cup cut carrots (quantity?) minced onion 1 can beef broth 1/2 cup flour large pot large pan (quantity?) stew meat Directions: in pan: brown meat add onions cover with water cook (how much heat?) 2 hrs after meat/onions are done, in pot: add meat/onions, potatoes, carrots, and beef broth cover pot and boil for 45 minutes (place biscuits in oven 8 minutes from done) gradually add flour and 1 cup water stir often for next 2 minutes serve with biscuits
