200 Cake ("Red Cake") INGREDIENTS ¥ 2 oz red food coloring ¥ 2 or 3 tbsp cocoa ¥ 1/2 cup crisco ¥ 1 1/3 cup sugar ¥ 2 eggs ¥ 2 1/4 cup cake flour ¥ scant tsp salt ¥ 1 cup buttermilk ¥ 1 tsp vinegar ¥ 1 tsp soda ¥Ê3 8" cake layer pans Æ preheat oven to 350 degrees ÆÊgrease and flour pans Æ mix well and set aside coloring mixture: red food coloring,cocoa ÆÊin mixing bowl, cream: crisco,sugar,eggs (add one at a time), coloring mixture ÆÊsift 3 times: flour,salt ÆÊwhile mixing, alternately add a bit at a time to the mixing bowl: flour/salt,buttermilk ÆÊadd vanilla ÆÊremove from mixer, add and mix by hand: vinegar,soda ÆÊquickly pour mixure equally into pans and place in oven ÆÊbake 25 minutes or until done (test with toothpick) -- variation: sheet cake -- ÆÊpour into 9"x13" greased and floured pan ÆÊbake at 350deg for 30-35 minutes Frosting for Red Cake INGREDIENTS ¥ 1 stick (1/2 cup) oleo ¥ 8 tbsp crisco ¥ 1 cup granulated sugar ¥ 3 tbsp flour ¥ 2/3 cup milk (at room temp) ¥ 1 tsp vanilla ÆÊcream: oleo,crisco,sugar,flour (1 spoon at a time) ÆÊadd milk,vanilla ÆÊbeat on high until light and fluffy
