1985 Kennedy Half Dollar gold and silver
1985 Kennedy Half Dollar gold and silver:
Purchased on 3/12/2025 for $10
I bought this on a whim from the Danbury Mint, it's an uncirculated Kennedy half dollar, with 999 silver and
gold highlighting, as well as an "archival coating", which I think means they sprayed it with a little bit of
clear shellac so it doesn't have to be kept in a capsule to prevent the silver (plating) from tarnishing.
I have to say I was pretty disappointed by the low quality of Danbury Mint's web site. Missing features, java
popups triggered by mouse movements all over the page, spontaneous popups, I can't even view a list of my recent
orders. It took them 45 minutes to email me an order confirmation after I placed my order. I was going to get
one of their colored $2 bills as well but at the cart it says no I can't order that and the half dollar at the
same time because they're both considered "promotional items" and you can only order one of those at a time.
Clicking on Order Status in the email takes me to my account page instead of order status page.
The coin finally arrived, and I'm a bit disappointed. It's covered in a thick coating of clear resin that bows
out slightly in the back and considerably in the front. The coin inside is gilded but is rather scratched up
from what looks like circulation or very worn dies. No deep scratches, just normal circulation wear. (it was
claimed to be uncirculated, but hard to tell for sure) Cheap price, cheap coin.
