1874-1887 Japanese 1 Yen silver 1874-1887 Japanese 1 Yen silver:

I've bought several of these coins, including several that turned out to be fakes. This is a very popular
coin to counterfeit.

This is the "large type" variation, with typical width of 38.5-38.7mm and thickness of 2.5mm, 26.96g weight.
Fakes tend to have the right weight and width but are thicker, get a digital caliper to measure that. The
brass fake had correct sizes but was very under-weight. The other three fakes had the right weight and width
but were 3.0mm thick.

The later "small type" variation are not as wide and thicker, but the difference is very slight, same weight.
