The alloys used vary, (0.900 - 0.925 gold is the most common) with silver and/or copper alloyed to harden and
improve durability in circulation. Lower purity alloys are occasionally seen, especially in older coins.

While a handful of "circulation alloy" grade gold coins have been minted in recent times, the "legal tender"
value for these coins has always been laughably small compared to their "melt value". (how much the metal they
are composed of is worth) Those coins are intended for collecting or investing only, and so will be sorted in
with the rest of the bullion coins, and not included here with the "true" circulating gold coins of antiquity.
