Technora is a synthetic fiber in the "aramid" family, known for very high strength and thermal stability.
It's in the same family as Kevlar, which is similarly known for being very difficult to cut and impossible to
melt. (when heated, aramids will chemically break down before reaching any sort of melting point)
I recently picked up a few samples of 5mm Technora from Knot and Rope Supply. I had asked them to
"cap" the ends but they were unable to perform this service due to the nature of the material. I don't have the
tools (or expertise) to "whip" the ends, so I'm not sure how I will be terminating them.
It has a minimum breaking strength of 4,700 lbs and working load limit of 940 pounds, which is very
impressive for a 5mm rope. They classify it for use as a high end accessory cord or emergency rappelling line.
It's a very static rope though, (NOT dynamic) so you really don't want to fall on it. It should also make a
very effective prusik, given its high strength combined with thin gauge.
The colorful jacket is made of smooth polyester. (not technora)
