5mm New England Tech Cord:
Tech Cord is an exceptionally strong cord made of a 100 % Technora¨ core surrounded by a polyester sheath.
This small diameter high strength rope is very abrasion resistant and is perfect as a cordelette rope, for
balancing anchors, slinging chocks and hexes or as an emergency rappel line.
I bought mine at Knot & Rope Supply but they only briefly carried it, maybe they were having difficulty
cutting it? The core is Technora, which is an "aramid", similar to Kevlar. Its melting point is above its
decomposition temperature, so it doesn't melt, it chemically breaks down into goo. It's also an excellent
transmitter of heat, and that makes it hard to cut too.
I added a few short lengths with another order just to play with. It might make a good compact rescue line,
but otherwise seems less practical than traditional ropes. It's thin and stiff, so doesn't handle well, and
isn't always compatible with hardware designed for 10-11mm ropes. (and it's more expensive)
