harness and tether
harness and tether:
I currently use a full-body harness and a web lanyard for positioning, connected with a large steel carabineer.
The harness is a Miller Duraflex model E753/S/MGN with two stowable positioning straps as well as using
stretchy webbing for comfort. In addition to the straps, it also has a small loop on each side to attach a
clip to. I can't find this model with the positioning straps on it, so you will probably need to get one that
has positioning rings instead.
The web lanyard is a DBI-SALA model 1231127, and has a beefy aluminum ladder hook connected to a locking
clip via a heavy 1" web 2ft long. I looked around and these are really hard to find with just one clip and
that use webbing instead of chain.
My central carabineer is a Petzl Vulcan. It's a large, heavy steel, and has an auto-locking gate that will
open to 3cm. (can't quite attach to a Rohn-25 tower leg) Mine's a 40kN, the new ones are 45kN.
The first picture below, I'm just about to start up a water tower's ladder, and just getting out my lanyard
to connect to my harness's straps. You can see the right strap still velcro'd to the harness just below
my right wrist. I don't know why that's not standard on modern harnesses.
