gin pole antenna looper
gin pole antenna looper:
When you install a multi-bay antenna, you can tie a rope around it that can be untied from below, so once you
have the antenna raised and secured, you can remove the rope and pack up.
It's different though when you're taking DOWN an antenna like that, because you have no easy way to attach to
the top of the antenna to lift it up. You end up either having to lasso one of the upper bays from below,
or just loosen it up and man-handle it down a bit to fasten to. Neither or those is fun to do.
My solution was to tape a rafter hanging hook (upside-down) to a light, extendable pole. Then I make a slip-
knot and leave it (open) just resting on the hook. Then I can raise the loop up to the top bay and loop it
around the bay. It may be possible to do something similar with a smooth pole using a prusik-like knot, but
I haven't needed to try that yet.
