tripod tether loops
tripod tether loops:
I found these recently, they're used to add a safety tether to cameras by adding a sturdy attachment ring to
the tripod mounting point on the bottom of most cameras. (specifically go-pro, but other cameras too)
They're a little expensive, but construction is really solid ad they also include a rubber gasket for better
grip and to help prevent accidental unscrewing. Uses the standard "1/4-20" thread, about 1/4" deep.
The body might be stainless steel, but the ring itself is definitely regular steel, so it could rust.
Each clip is supposed to support up to 14 pounds, but keep in mind that if it's on a lanyard and falls a
bit before being caught there will be more force than just the static weight, just like a climber fall.
They're marketed as "carabiner clips", although I think it'd be smarter to use a length of paracord-550 to
connect to your s-biner or whatever rather than connecting the biner directly to the camera. That way you
won't need to un-tether the camera to start taking pictured and videos. I want all my gear to stay tethered
all the time if possible. (screwdrivers and rolls of tape are currently my only exceptions due to difficulty
in using them while tethered)
