bosun's chair:




A "Bosun's Chair" is a basic seat to sit on while working on a tower or other elevated position off the ground.
It's suspended from above, and has an (often cushioned) rigid seat. Unlike a sling, the hard seat minimizes
pressure on the hips, making for a more comfortable support for longer duration use.

It is NOT intended a a safety device, climbers should always remain harnessed and tethered to the tower.

I've been relying on my harness to support me while working on a tower. I don't own one of these yet, but I'm
considering getting one, especially for climbs on larger towers where I can't use my tower stand. It may be
less practical than a harness since it's designed to be suspended from directly above, not via an inward line
from the tower. It may also offer less precision in positioning.

Some Bosun's Chairs have a seat brace that can be removed to convert it into a sling.

These are very similar to a "Hanging Belay Chair", which is used to provide better positioning and control while
belaying another climber farther up a wall.
