2025.06.17 MetroNET down:
Internet was slow and pages were failing to load when I got up on the 17th. I was generally able to use the
internet but it was slow and unreliable. I tred rebooting my entire network (fiber modem, router, switches)
but that didn't help. I tried to run a SpeedTest check but it kept stalling trying to find a server test with.
When it finally got a test running, it encountered massive packet loss, as well as a high jitter.
I left to run some errands, and when I returned I found my internet was completely down. I called MetroNET
and spent a long time waiting for a tech to answer, expecting they were experiencing a widespread outage. She
reported no problems and was unable to reach my modem. It had a red "FAIL" light lit. I rebooted it and
watched the lights, which didn't look like they were progressing normally, and it soon settled on the FAIL
light red again. She scheduled a tech to come out the next morning around 10am. I started a PINGTEST to
monitor my connection to 8.8.8.8 so it would notify me when the internet came back up, as well as log times.
My internet was down the rest of the day and evening. When I got up the next morning (18th) my internet was
running fine. I checked the PINGTEST log and found that between 3:39-4:39am internet went up and down
many times, but then became stable. They must have found and fixed some problem elsewhere. Interesting to
see that the up-and-down time was exactly 60 minutes. The tech on the phone the other day acted like my
modem was an old model, so I'll be waiting for the tech to call before they come over and see if they still
want to stop by, and maybe just get a newer model of modem.
