After losing patience with getting the AC running again, I decided to just take a day off and have Dalton come
over and take a look. They only charge about $48 for a call (plus parts) so it shouldn't be too bad.

The tech that came over was nice and friendly but seemed a bit inexperienced. Lots of chatting on the phone
and sending pictures to someone, he's probably still learning. Showed him my progress. He also assumed the
relay was Normally Open, would need to get a replacement. He came back with the replacement ($185? ouch!) but
it also was showing short. Call to his support, no, that relay is NC. OK maybe my relay is fine and the cap
just grenaded because it was garbage? Reassembled with my relay and my improved (330v) start cap. No power.

Checked the fuses in the basement, one was blown. 20A slow blow big fuse. Quick run to Menards since I don't
have spares. (I was meaning to get spares but kept forgetting) Thankfully the tech was just patient
enough to stick around while I went shopping. Back with fuses, and it works! He's running behind now though
so he took off right after we got it running.

I am still suspicious of that relay. I ought to have tested it to verify it was turning off the coil after it
had started the compressor. I'll do that when I scrape up some more ambition. Now I can take my time a bit
and get a MUCH cheaper replacement relay online. eBay has some listings for a U3 (instead of V3) for $20 which
is very close in specs. And I'm ordering a spare upgraded run cap too. Hopefully this new cap doesn't
grenade on me before I can get things tested. I've also ordered some #10x1/2" stainless hex screws for the
cabinet. Took a few more pictures of the wiring before closing it up.

When the tech tested the resistance on the heat pump he got 3.3 and 1.6 ohms on the run and start coils.
