2025.07.09 post-boom inspection:


After I replaced the compressor start capacitor, it ran for about half a day and then that evening (July 6)
I heard a BOOM that I thought was fireworks, along with an accompanying flash of light out the back
window, but then the AC started going room-temp again. I went out a few days later when I got a chance to
inspect it, and found the brown confetti had escaped the new run capacitor. I cleaned it out a bit, and also
removed the run relay for testing. It tested short across the contacts, so I assume the relay shorted out and
left the run capacitor inline for too long and blew it up. It's possible that's what fried the previous run
cap, and for some reason it just decided to open up rather than explode.

I had already ordered a replacement relay and capacitor, but unfortunately the relay in the service manual is
a totally different relay, and so now I need more parts. Sadly, this relay is a much more difficult one to
find and get here with any haste. I'll try to find one locally, but they want over $30 for them online so I
can just imagine they'll be trying to soak me for one locally.
