2024.05.23 K0DV guy wire anchor repair
2024.05.23 K0DV guy wire anchor repair:
Doug (K0DV) called me to let me know he had one of the guy wire anchors on his house pull out in the recent
wind storm. and wanted to get it fixed quickly since another powerful wind storm was in the forecast.
His tower is pretty well secured, with a strong concrete base, a strong house bracket about 23 feet up, and
three guy wires low with another three high, but he's got a huge Tennadyne multiband beam that sticks up well
above the tree canopy, so there's a substantial wind load to manage.
Both guys on the South side are attached close to each other on his roof, and the high wire pulled its anchor
bolt out. I verified where the rafter was, drilled a pilot in a slightly different location, and tapped the
anchor back in. After tightening up the other anchor, I secured and tightened both guy wires, and applied a
generous amount of roofing tar to both anchors, the old anchor hole, and a bit of damaged shingling. We were
expecting severe thunderstorms that evening, so hopefully the tar sets up enough before the rain hits, otherwise
it'll require adding back any tar washed away by the storm.
