2026.06.12 ID printer big jam:


Got a frantic call from Hawkeye Center, their ID printer wasn't working. Anthony was out so I ran over to
take a look and see if there was anything I could do to get them running again.

It turned out to be a horrible jam that had wrapped many turns of ribbon around one of the feed rollers and
ripping it off the take-up roll. I ended up cutting the other end free and pulling about a foot of chewed
up ribbon off the feed roller. They had one spare ribbon on-hand, and I was able to get that installed
into the printer and get them operating again.

I don't know if anyone's going to want to try to "splice" the ribbon between the source and take-up rollers to
use what's left of the ribbon or not. They'll also need to get at least one (maybe two?) spare ribbons on-hand.
