2014 flood
2014 flood:
I hadn't been working here even a month when I was out doing stormspotting for a big storm. I noticed there
was a flood crossing Hammand Ave when I tried to go home, and thought "I wonder if HCC is doing ok?" and so I
stopped by. I immediately saw the (below-grade) loading area by our back door was flooded and filling fast,
water was coming in the building.
I didn't have much in the way of contacts on my phone yet, and my signal was pretty terrible, but I was able
to get ahold of Don. Royce came out (and I think Rusty and Rob showed up as well) We used PCs that were in
the recycle hall to build a makeshift dam to try to keep water from coming up the hallway and getting into the
back room where Royce's work area was. We used visqueen and bubble wrap, braced with PC towers for the dam.
There were still fans going when I came in on Monday, trying to dry out all the wet carpet in the nearby rooms,
and I think they had to replace some drywall and floor moulding. (the flooding was on a Friday night)
