2026.08.17 Escape alternator tackle:
I've been putting this off for an insane amount of time, over a year. My Explorer's been running well but is
about due for some maintenance so this would be a really good time to fix the Escape.
Looking at the charge system, it appears that BLK/YEL powers the exciter for the alternator, and
BRN/WHT is how the PCM turns on charging. GRY/ORG looks like the feedback from the alternator for
when there's a problem with charging, probably lights the "Alternator" light on the dash, as well
as telling the PCM that it's not working.
I'd like to get a current measurement on the exciter (15A fuse #11) and be able to interrupt BRN/WHT
to disconnect the PCM from the alternator. Some have said that overrides the alternator's internal
charge control, and if I disconnect the (errant) PCM, it might just work properly on its own.
