I'm too lazy to change my own oil so I let Jiffy Lube handle it. They also remind me when I'm overdue for
various services, which some people find to be annoying and pesty, but for me it's very helpful because I'm
terrible for forgetting to do vehicle maintenance. Sometimes I let them do it, other times I have it done
elsewhere.
Recently I was in for an oil change and they reminded me my cabin filter was pretty dusty. I thought about
having them replace it, but hey it's just dust, I can blow that out with compressed air and get by another
year or two before needing a new filter. So I told them to "just leave it out". He left the waiting area
before I realized I didn't tell them where to leave the filter. "I'll tell them to put it on the passenger
seat when they come back." Well, like I said before, my memory is terrible, and I forgot to tell them where
to leave the filter.
Fast forward a week and I get on youtube to find out where the filter is at and the cabin filter IS NOT in the
cabin, it's up against the firewall on the passenger side, under a weather cover and a filter cover. Imagine
my surprise to find out there's NO FILTER there. They really did "leave it out". (threw it away) Owell, I
won't be blowing it out I guess, time to go trolling Amazon for a new filter.
A week later and I hope it's the right size, since I don't have the original to measure. It wasn't hard at all
to replace, and I'd already taken it apart (to discover it GONE) so it was a pretty easy job. Getting that
box cover back on again is the most annoying part, it's got an awkward way of twisting it around to fit it into
place. But it was about half the price of what Jiffy Lube wanted for it. ($12 instead of $22 iirc?) So never
let it be said that I won't do my own vehicle maintenance.
