2024.12.08 Kenmore Induction:


This old induction range has suffered occasional burner losses over the years and at this point they're all
dead, so I'm going to see if I can revive some or all of them. If not, the ceramic top will be removed to
install over a new set of under-cabinet induction units.

The exposed part of the ceramic top measures 26 inches by 19.5 inches. It's surrounded by a bezel that's
7/8 of an inch wide, although I can't tell at this point just how much of the top is covered by the bezel.
Probably 1/4 to 1/2 inch on each of the four sides if I had to guess. So the ceramic is probably somewhere
between 26.5 x 20 and 27 x 20.5

It'd be nice if the only thing it needs is some new fuses.

No such luck, all the fuses are good. Rebuilt my 120 to 240 transformer, it has a grounded 120 on one end
and a 20a 4-wire female socket on the other end. Decided to hook it up to a 120vac inverter for testing, to
isolate it for safety. My 1500w TSW didn't like the inrush, so switched to the 3500/7k MSW big guns inverter.
That worked, and it appears to have powered up fine. The far right burner's controls aren't responsive, but
the other three seem to respond, but I don't have a proper induction-compatible pan to test it with, and it
doesn't seem to like anything else I try. I can turn them on, and select a heating level, but it just tweets
at me like the pan is missing.

It's possible the problem (with the three burners) isn't a problem with the range, but something wrong with the
installation at their house. I was told one burner had been out for quite some time, but the other three had
suddenly stopped working at all. (touch panel not responding) Seeing as the touch panel is responsive now,
maybe it's fine? Will take it back and have them give it another go.
