Radio Shack 100w HF dummy load:




This is a classic one from radio shack. Inside that aluminum shell is a 15w carbon resistor, just hanging in
mid-air inside a 3/4" cavity. The only thermal conduction from the resistor is the air around it and the two
leads, which can make the center pin on that PL-259 get really hot.

I remember buying a spare and ripping it apart for the resistor. Then I took a metal film canister and punched
a hole in the top to mount a chassis-mount SO-239 into, and attached the resistor directly to the connector.
With the lid closed, it was suspended sideways inside the can, which I filled with a few inches of cooking oil.
Worked surprisingly well to dump 100w or more continuously until I found a proper paint can dummy load.
