CW (morse code)
CW (morse code):
A friend of mine (Joey, N0NS) took me with him to a hamfest, where he was planning to upgrade from General to
Extra. On a whim I decided to try taking a test too. Passed my Novice, (do you know how to operate a radio?)
and my General (do you know electronics?), completely bombed the Extra of course. (radio theory) And by some
miracle, got my 5WPM while knowing only like 10 letters. (I literally copied the dots and dashes to a page and
teased out enough multiple choice answers to pass) This, without having studied ANYTHING and having absolutely
NO intention of getting my ham license, walked away with my General.
I'm still mostly useless with my code, but I'd like to improve. I've been using an ancient straight key at my
desk to practice with, and just today I picked up a nice compact paddle key with magnetic base that I'm going
to switch to and see if I can make any progress.
