1 measurements, coax, and elements:
Many Tape-Measure-Beams (TMBs) just optimize the elements for highest gain. The one I use is different, and
is optimized for best front-to-back and front-to-side ratios. The gain is a little less, but it generates a
higher movement on the meter as you turn it around, which I think is a better trade-off.
After cutting the elements to length, I give the outer ends a slightly curved shape, as well as sanding the
rough-cut to something smoother, to improve on safety. I also add a patch of the loop velcro on the ends for
compact storage.
And finally, I prep the coax with a bit of hot-melt glue as a strain-relief, because the coax ends sometimes
get yanked unexpectedly, and you donn't want your antenna getting taken out of the hunt on accident. I've had
TWO antennas get their BNCs pulled off the coax in under an hour, so don't skip this step.
