8 end-of-day fox hunt
8 end-of-day fox hunt:
The last scout group finished at 4pm, at which point a whole-camp fox-hunt was scheduled to start. Fox-5 and
Fox-6 had been hidden farther out around the camp by Mark (N8TWO) I don't know what Mark has in mind but I
suspect they'll be out of range of the wheelchair. Hopefully they've been trained well enough to be able to
manage on their own because I wont be providing them with any assistance.
Since the scouts had a "build a tape measure beam" activity earlier in the day, there were plenty of additional
antennas available, although they hadn't been inspected or tested. The two I looked at after the event both
had construction mistakes - one was missing the hairpin (would not have worked) and the other had the handle
on the wrong end. (this was usable at the end of the day, but they had to remember it pointed the wrong way)
Although I had extra radios, I didn't have any offset attenuators to spare, and was worried that a combination
of untested antennas and no attenuation might make the final hunt very difficult. Also one of the antennas had
a type-F connector. (and 75 ohm coax) They were significantly better than beams built in previous years, but
the process still needs some improvement.
I asked Mark (N8TWO) to get pictures of the foxes after hiding them, pictures below.
