back to 120 volt AC
step-up transformers
step-up transformers:
I have a few big transformers I've been using to step up 120vac to 240vac where I need it, at low current.
The transformer is the size of a basketball, and has dual primaries and several secondaries, I it came from
an automotive cart for starting cars so the 12v side is really heavy.
It uses dual primaries, that you wire in parallel for 120vac or in series for 240vac. So I ignore the
secondaries, and wire up the primaries in series, with an attached 240v power strip across the ends. Then
I feed 120vac line power to just one of the primaries. This seems to work well to step up 120 to 240, but I
don't know if it's reliable for higher current use.
The primary windings look like #14, and the secondaries look like #10 but are square instead of round,
probably for tighter packing around the core.
