back to laser pointers

2 my first green 2 my first green:

After having my red pointer for many years, I decided to get one of those new-fangled green pointers that were
just becoming more popular. They claimed to be more efficient (run longer on batteries) and also be visually
more bright because of the increased sensitivity to green in the human eye. It looks like I bought it back
in 2002 for $173, wow that wasn't cheap at the time!

This one was 532mn iirc, and produces a very vivid green color. A lot of modern green laser pointers use a
different process and produce a slightly teal color in their green. This pointer claimed to be 5mW, but it's
much more visually bright than my old red one. 5mW was the new federal limit on unlicensed consumer-grade
laser pointers.

This one uses two AA batteries, and has a momentary button on the side to turn on the laser. Easier to hold
on, but also can turn on intermittently in the pocket, under the right conditions. It also had a painted brass
housing that got the paint worn off it from years in my pocket alongside car keys.
