Garmin Edge 605 Garmin Edge 605:

I bought this "trip computer" around 2005, before smartphones had gotten suited to doing the job with an app.
The screen is kinda small, but it's very responsive, has all the features you'll need, and is very rugged.

I was always using it when I was on the bike trails, as it gave exact speed (to the 10th of a MPH) and could
tell me the distance to my next waypoint. Keeping it charged was a minor headache. Probably is badly in need
of a map and firmware update, though I don't know what's available for such an old unit nowadays.

One really nice thing about it is the display is highly configurable, with the ability to choose among
a wide variety of information displays and their positions. It also lets you configure two different displays,
for fast switching between your preferred information. The menus are intuitive and easy to access, which isn't
something I can say for many of the modern GPS devicies on the market today.
