I am making a manual for operation of the recorder: PD-162 1.0" LCD Digital USB Rechargeable Voice Recorder w/ MP3 Player (4GB) The buttons are labeled on the back in chinese so I don't know what some are. There are two switches on the left. The one closer to the top is the Recorder/MP3 switch. The one below that is the on/off switch. On the front is a play/pause button. On the right is a switch and four buttons. The switch is play/record, and the buttons are marked (M), (+), (-), and (V). It's possible that the (+) and (-) buttons were installed reversed, because they don't always work as expected. (up goes down etc) The (V) is the option button. MP3 PLAYBACK: To play MP3's, load them onto the recorder by plugging in a usb cable to your computer and drop MP3 files onto the usb storage. Eject the storage. Move the dvr/mp3 switch to the lower position to select mp3 mode. Move the power switch to the upper position to turn on the unit. After displaying "N98" and "init", the display will show "MP3" and read 001 to show the first mp3 is selected, and will show the length of the song in minutes and seconds. If no mp3 files are found, it will say "no file" instead. Supports MP3 and WMA files. Press play/pause to start playing or pause a song. The next song will automatically play when the end if an mp3 is reached. When it finishes playing the last mp3, it will resume playing the first mp3. "All" will be displayed indicating it is looping through all songs. There is probably a way to change this but I have not discovered it yet. While listening to a song, the wheel will spin. Below the wheel is a rising row of bars and a horizontal line. The rising bars indicate the playback volume. Press the option to make the line flash. Now press (+) or (-) repeatedly to adjust volume. Press option again when done changing volume. While not in option mode, press and release the (+) and (-) buttons to change MP3s or press and hold them to scan forward or backward in the currently playing mp3. The length of the song will be updated when changing songs, otherwise the current position of the song will be displayed. You can also press the (M) button while the line is flashing to make "A-" flash, and next "A-B" flash, and next "A-B" continuous, I do not know what these mean but A-B flashing makes the song skip. It may be related to looping or stereo channels. Press the play/pause button to pause the playback and then press option button and then (M) to enter into the setup menu. Press (+) and (-) to change each option, press (M) to go to the next option. Options: FRE: free dvr space, shows kb or time depending on Type setting TYPE: HP or LP, displays free space in time or mb LED: on or off, whether or not the red LED near the mic flashes during recording. it always blinks once when recording starts DATE: set year, month, day, hour, minute, second. press (M) to go to next field. you must press the play/pause button to save the currently displayed setting. this also exits the setup menu. DVR RECORD: At any time, slide the record switch up to begin recording. (the on/off switch must be on) The red record light will turn on immediately, but wait a few seconds for the recording to start, as indicated on the display before you start talking. You can press the play/pause button to pause recording. When done, slide the record switch down to save the recording. Wait a few seconds for the save to complete before turning the unit off. DVR PLAYBACK: Slide the DVR/MP3 switch to the DVR position and slide the power switch on. The display will show "DVR" and indicate the number of recordings saved. HQ or LQ will be displayed, indicating current record quality setting. Press (+) and (-) to select a recording. The length of the recording will be displayed. Press play/pause to listen to the recording. Press and hold (+) and (-) to scan through a recording. Volume is adjusted in the same way as when playing mp3's above. The option menu also works the same here. Press and hold (M) to delete the currently selected recording. "ONE" will flash. Press the play/pause button to confirm the delete. Press (M) to toggle between "ONE" and "ALL". Press play/pause with ALL selected to delete all recordings. The smaller "All" will be displayed in DVR mode also. It can probably also be changed to play one or once or loop etc as with MP3 mode but I do not know how to change it. If you leave the unit on it will go into standby mode after awhile, displaying the current time. I recommend turning power off when not in use to keep the battery from draining. The clock keeps fair time but mine gains about a second a day, so you may need to adjust the time periodically. This is only used for displaying the time and for timestamping new recordings. It also will go into standby mode when left paused for awhile during DVR or MP3 playback. You can also drag and drop new recordings to your computer when connected with USB, and can delete recording files directly. MP3 files will appear in file list order on the MP3 display, they will not show names but will indicate song length. You can plug in headphones or another audio cable to the headphone jack on the top, it will play through the headphones instead of using the internal speaker. There are better mini recorders available, but this one is the smallest and cheapest one I have found that has a display. (~$35) The company that makes these (name?) makes several other similar models also.
